The painful poignancy of desire

The shadow of your shadow

Poetry is a Platonic cave
A wall of images
That captivate the imagination
To intensify emotions
One never thought one had
Or awaken those that lay dormant
In the tomb of a nearly forgotten past
To which no path returns
Innocently, you move about my world
Your life mirrored in these anonymous words
That pursue you with the intensity
Of a current I can’t fully control
Which overwhelms me as much as it surprises you
So much so that to soothe this beautiful pain
I erect this wall of images that chant
An uplifting symphony of prayers
This shadow of your shadow
Is my elegy to love.
