The painful poignancy of desire

My voyage

I sit on the shore, close my eyes and dream
Of the many voyages I could have taken in life
I could have traveled on the calmest of seas
To glide my way smoothly like a bird
I could have taken adventurous trips
To feel the thrill of every storm
I could have stopped in many towns
To take bright pictures that would soon look worn
I could have lived completely bound
Or could have boldly seized the day
Instead, I chose this middle ground
Of taking few risks yet making waves
Of being free yet needing trust
Of settling down in a single port
While in the vastness of the sky
Finding the freedom that I lost.
